Midnight Bizarre — A Live Performance in Motion 《午夜怪诞》现场演出——古筝 × 视觉艺术 × 书法的跨界呈现

Techne Art Center, San Diego | March 14

On March 14, I presented Midnight Bizarre live at Techne Art Center in San Diego—an evening that unfolded as a meeting point of sound, movement, and visual expression.

This performance was an expanded interpretation of Midnight Bizarre from my album Two Moons. While the original recording captures a specific moment in time, the live version opens the work into something fluid—shaped by improvisation, energy, and the presence of the audience. Each performance becomes its own living form.

Midnight Bizarre exists in a space between structure and spontaneity. Through the guzheng, I explored textures of tension, stillness, and release—allowing the music to evolve organically in the moment rather than following a fixed path.

A central element of this performance was the collaboration with visual artist Allen Liu (刘嘉南), whose live calligraphy and visual art unfolded in dialogue with the music. Brushstrokes responded to sound; movement echoed rhythm. Together, we created an environment where music and image were not separate elements, but reflections of the same evolving energy.

The performance also incorporated elements of movement and storytelling, adding another layer to the experience. Rather than presenting a linear narrative, Midnight Bizarre invites the audience into an abstract, sensory journey—one that is open to interpretation and personal reflection.

There is something uniquely powerful about live performance: the unpredictability, the immediacy, the shared space between artist and audience. In that space, transformation becomes possible—not only for the work itself, but for everyone present.

The full performance video is now available on YouTube. I invite you to experience Midnight Bizarre in its live form and step into this world of sound and visual expression.
